Pedrogao Grande is a friendly safe well maintained town, there are two supermarkets, doctors offices, health centre, dentist, hairdressers, banks, Nationwide bus station, bakeries, library, beautiful park, Free parking, movie House, museums. Evening entertainment in local bars on weekends. A tourist centre. Many more interesting places to visit.

The Great Route of the Zêzere consists of over 370 km of hike trails that follow the Zêzere River from its source in Serra da Estrela, to its mouth in Constantia, home of the Tagus River. Designed to be multidisciplinary, the route can be done on foot, by mountain bike or by canoe/kayak. From our cottage sections from Alvaro to Dornes are easily accessible, totalling 95km of absolutely amazing hike trails through diverse natural wonders.

There are many official river beaches (called Praia Fluvials) as well as numerous wild swimming opportunities around this area. We at Dragonfly Valley are located directly above overlooking the joining of rivers Unhais and Zezere. These can be accessed down a path below and you can swim here. The nearest river beach is at the Cabril dam. There is plenty of parking, cafes, beautiful views and a life guarded swimming area (during the summer holidays). A beautiful river beach nearby is Mosteiro. It's around 10 minutes drive away. There is a cafe there and nice grassy area to relax. It is also a traditional pretty schist village. This one is also really nice, and is abit smaller… Mega Fundeira's River Beach On the other side of the Cabril dam you can drive up and over to a track that follows the river. There are nice places to swim and have picnics there. Ponto de boa vista para Pedrogao Grande e Lago Verde About 20 minutes drive away is this place. It has amazing pools along the river in a deep gorge. You can walk and swim there. There is a great new wooden walkway with steps right to the top with great views too... Passadiço das Fragas de São Simão EM525, 3260, Portugal This is the nice town to visit below the hills at Castanheira de Péra. There is a swimming pool fed by the river that is great for kids, with a wave machine and lots of shade at Praia das Rocas.

A lovely historic town set close to the River Zezere. Restaurants, banks and supermarkets available. There is a floating swimming pool on the banks of the river.
