The x- military zone “ illegally”occupied by people from Scandinavian countries since 1970’s. Famous for it’s democratic minded housing and interaction, Pusher street, free music events (mostly Sundays in summer saison), concert hall where smoking is prohibited unless it’s weed, vegan food at Morgensted and of course for it’s beautiful nature.

You have probably heard of this place. A breakaway region, a freetown, where all things cannabis are legal. The police does not agree and raid the place regularly. It is a somewhat of an interesting anomaly with an history well worth investigating. Visit and enjoy the very laid-back atmosphere.

Christiania is a freetown. Be aware that you can not use your cellphone while going down pusher street as some may think that you are taking pictures for the police. The cafe Nemoland is nice to get a snack or a beer.

The old occupied Freetown, built in a closed military base in the 70’s by progressive hippies. There are a lot of nice music venues in there: Loppen, Den Grå Hal, Nemoland, Abegrotten, Christianias Børneteater. Within the last decades the inner street (Pusher street) has been taken over by gangs selling marijhuana openly. They can have an aggressive behavior, but if you avoid this street and just walk around you will see some really beautiful sites, homestyle architecture made by hippies.
