Get in a boat to eat drink and sing with mariachis. Plan it well because it’s really far from the flat. Better to go in groups with a tour. You can also take a kayak tour to get the sunrise and a Mexican breakfast. You can book in IG : kayak.xochimilco tours_kayak_xochimilco_

Although it has become a bit overwhelming, going to Xochimilco and exploring its canals on a trajinera (large party barge) with friends is a delightful experience. Don’t forget to explore the surreal island of the dolls.

Xochimilco in the South part of the City. The name Xochimilco is derived from Nahuatl, combining the words "xochitl" and "milli," signifying "where the flowers grow." This region holds historical significance as it was constructed on the site of a pre-Columbian town and is renowned for its chinampas, which are floating gardens. Local agriculturalists created rafts using branches and reeds, covered them with lakebed mud, and cultivated a variety of crops, including fruits, vegetables, and flowers. These products were transported to Tenochtitlan (now Mexico City) via a network of canals. Over time, these rafts became more permanent fixtures, effectively forming islands in the lake. Now, visitors to Xochimilco can partake in a delightful and unique Mexican experience by taking a ride on the colorful Trajineras. As you float along the picturesque canals, you can savor a cold beer, all while being serenaded by the lively tunes of mariachis or trios. This enchanting and lively experience is a must for anyone seeking an authentic taste of Mexican culture.

Grab a group and hop on the famous Xochimilco boats. In southern Mexico City, a gritty working-class neighborhood gives way to the famous canals of Xochimilco, the last remnants of a vast water transport system built by the Aztecs. Colorful gondola-like boats take visitors on cruises while food vendors, artisans and mariachi bands float past. The atmosphere is festive, especially on weekends. Tourists can also visit the eerie, purportedly haunted Island of the Dolls.
