Culatra is fisherman island, very picturesque with beautiful beaches, you can reach the island by the ferry at 5 minutes walks from Pier34. Usually we like to take the ferry to Culatra and cross the island to the beach, then then walk to Farol, there you take a ferry back to Olhão or you can take a taxi boat for more fun. on the way after a long walk on the beach don't hesitate to take refreshment at one of the beach bar.

Part of the Ria Formosa Natural Park, the Ilha da Culatra is one of the island-barriers separating the sea from the estuary. Accessible only by the ferry service departing from Olhão or Faro, the Beach is free of any motorised vehicles ensuring peace and tranquillity prevail to create the perfect ambience for those seeking to rest on open sands bathed by a calm sea. The transparency of the waters here ensures visibility of around 15 metres, ideal for divers. In Culatra, a former fishing village, there are restaurants specialising in the famous razor clam rice or the caldeirada fish stews that so successfully combine the many types of fish that prosper in the waters here.

You may leave very early in the morning (07H30) to Olhão to be able to take the 9AM Ferry to the Culatra island. This is an amazing village that takes you to a natural reserve. You need to be able to walk 20 mins to get to the beach. The last ferry to come back leaves at 20h.

- Natural Feature“A perfect day trip to the sandy barrier of Armona. The island is wide, with a beach as far as the eye can see that extends to Praia da Fuzeta (approximately 9 km long). The beaches closest to the mainland offer visitors warm and calm waters. The few natives who live on the island live essentially from tourism and fishing. In the small fishing village, there are some mini-markets, cafes, and simple restaurants. There are several agencies that carry out boat trips to Ilha da Armona, from Olhão, Fuzeta and Faro. However, one of the fastest and cheapest ways to get there is to take the Ferry boat, at Porto de Recreio de Olhão, located at Av. October 5th. During the months of July and August, the Ferry operates every hour from 07:30 to 20:00. During the months of June and September, the boats operate every two hours in the morning, and every hour in the afternoon. The journey to the island takes just over 10 minutes and the ticket costs less than 5 euros (round trip). ”
