TOP 3 things to do in Monteverde
If I had limited time in Monteverde and they asked me for 1-3 things that are a must do to get a full experience these are them.
#1 If you want a full experience that can fill most of your day as you enjoy hiking through BREATHING waterfalls and movielike hanging bridges don't miss this experience!!! Skip all the other touristy canopy tours and do this true adventure! This place has my favorite hanging bridges, they look straight out of a jungle movie.
Enjoy free juice and coffee at reception.
The hike can be a bit challenging but worth every step because of the AMAZING views! Some of the packages include lunch, ATV or horse pick up. Also they have something similar to zipline but you go in a bike instead: do it if you can!
So I would recommend to buy the package with the lunch and bike.
Recommended to bring: bathing suit for swimming at the river, towel, hiking boots for lots of mud, mosquito repellent, water and snacks!

I prefer doing an early morning hike and after your hike stop for a cup of coffee at Cafe Colibri which is located just OUTSIDE the main entrance of the reserve, where you can see lots of hummingbirds flying around while you sip your morning coffee.

Enjoy the MOST authentic food made by local moms here. I personally love this place and go here almost everyday! Because I get to experience the real thing!! My fave: Tortilla con queso frito, Desayuno Tipico, Casados, natural juices.

Zelmi is my aunt and she opened this small rustic pizza and traditional food restaurant in the family farm called Finca Ecológica San Luis.
She cooks a variety of Costa Rican foods, as well as delicious pizzas!
Make sure to bring cash!! NO cards accepted.
It will take a 20 minute drive from the Airbnb for you to get there. Amazing hidden gem. The farm also has walking trails and access to a beautiful river that you can access for a $20 fee.

I am so honour to say that this is my grandma's farm. she and her 11 children decided to convert this former milk farm into a conservation reserve. I honestly tell you that if what you are looking for is quiet, rural, peace, non touristy experience this is the best place. The farm has a river with freezing cold and super clean water that i encourage you to deep in for a Wim Wolf experience. There is a pizzeria at the farm where my aunt Zelmira makes amazing food for visitors. Make sure to call ahead time if you plan to eat there as not always is open.

It also has an amazing tower at short distance from the information center, where you can see Arenal, Miravalles and Rincon de la Vieja Volcanoes in a clear day! They also have sunrise and sunset tours that you can book ahead of time if interested.

This place is a hidden gem! Much less busy than her sister "Reserva Monteverde" but equally beautiful. It also has an amazing tower at short distance from the information center, where you can see Arenal, Miravalles and Rincon de la Vieja Volcanoes in a clear day! They also have sunrise and sunset tours that you can book ahead of time if interested.
