The Vondelpark is located in the city district Amsterdam-South it stretches from the Stadhouderskade until the Amstelveenseweg and is named after the city’s best-known poet, Joost van den Vondel (1587-1679), a statue of him stands in the park. The park is a national monument since 1996.

In the park you’ll find the National Monument of Slavery and a monument in memory of the filmmaker and columnist Theo van Gogh who was murdered in the Linnaeusstraat in 2004. In addition there are many other monuments to view.
