The lava tubes are an awesome natural phenomenon and are only a 4 minute drive from the suite, so definitely worth a visit! These caves go on for many miles and you can go in as far as you like. But beware, they are totally dark and the terrain is tricky, with crawling necessary at some points if you want to go further in. I highly recommend good hiking boots and a headlamp.

This breathtaking part of the island is a bit of a drive to get to (about 2 hours), but totally worth it! The cliffs there are like no other part of the island, and the drive itself is gorgeous. There is a lookout at the top of the valley and a switchback trail that will take you down to the beach (this beach has a heavy undertow and is not great for swimming but it is beautiful). There are also trails leading to more valleys that can take you as far as you dare hike, but it is very steep and can be dangerous during heavy rain.

There is a lookout at the top of the valley and a switchback trail that will take you down to the beach (this beach has a heavy undertow and is not great for swimming but it is beautiful). There are also trails leading to more valleys that can take you as far as you dare hike, but it is very steep and can be dangerous during heavy rain.
Head up the mountain for breathtaking views, both day and night. The star gazing on Maunakea is second to none, and watching the sunset from the aptly named Sunset Hill is an amazing experience. There is some good hiking up there as long as you are fit enough to make a pretty steep trek at greater than 9,000 feet. Make sure to bring lots of sun protection!

Best spot in town for a classy dinner. It is right on the water overlooking Hilo, the waitstaff are wonderful, and the food is delicious. They do fill up on busy nights, so I recommend calling for a reservation (808-935-4939).

Ride share options like Uber and Lyft are not as reliable here as they are in most places, but they can get you around town. They generally stop running pretty early in the night and don't get started until mid morning.
