With a desirably hidden Melbourne address: at the end of a bluestone lane, in an unassuming utilitarian warehouse, Chez Dre is a stylistic juxtaposition which recasts the disparate passions of a Paris-trained pâtissèrie to create a stimulating and whimsically discordant café atmosphere.

Open since January and already popular with Albert Park locals, Brother Shota is bustling and casual. The busy one-page menu has some Japanese classics, including sushi that harks back to those before-school sessions in Korea, but it's the reworked dishes that give Brother Shota its edge.

Split into two sections across Montague Street, the eastern and western sides of St Vincent Gardens are distinct but similarly Georgian. Toilets, large trees, picnic areas, paths, playgrounds and sporting facilities are things that bring people back to this lovely little pocket. Its design was influenced by similar precincts in London, and on a crisp Melbourne morning, it really does feel like I am meandering through a park in the British capital.
