Neighborhoods

At the Puerto de San Louis, you can hire a boat to see Arenal Volcano. There are other options on Lake Arenal, including paddle boarding and canoeing. Take the road leading to the lake at the bus stop next to Villa Mercedes. On a sunny day you can go to Rio Celeste and see the turqouise waterfall and follow the trail back to the chemical reaction causing the colour change. There are other hikes around the lake. Las Pumas, is a small animal rescue centre just north of Las Canas, off the main highway. A bit further on towards Liberia, near the exit to Bagaces is the Llanos de Cortes waterfall. They say if you only have time to visit one waterfall, make it this one. Both La Fortuna and Monteverde can be reached by car/bus, where there are many activities, such as zip-lines and canopy walks.

Sightseeing

If you are driving from Liberia on the CA1 you will pass a waterfall with a pool below that is a great place to cool off. It's called Agua Caliente and is just South of Bagaces on the right, very small sign post.
