Barceloneta is a neighborhood of marine origin in the Ciutat Vella district of Barcelona, built during the 18th century and initially planned by the engineer Próspero de Verboom, in 1719, in order to accommodate the inhabitants of the La Ribera district who had lost their houses, ordered demolished by Felipe V to build the Ciudadela. But the works did not begin until 1753, under the new project and direction of the military engineer Juan Martín Cermeño at the request of Jaime de Guzmán.
