A must when going to visit Lake of Scanno is the hermitage of San Domenico, which gives its name to the lake it overlooks. The two realities blend perfectly in a painting of rare beauty. The Hermitage is accessed via a bridge which makes everything even more spectacular. Preceding the entrance to the small church is a portico with four large paintings from 1938, the work of the Villalago painter Alfredo Gentile, depicting scenes from the life of the saint and focused on the narration of some of his best-known miracles. A lovely picnic area and small kiosk with snacks, panini and drinks.

The Orfento Valley is located in Abruzzo in the Municipality of Caramanico Terme (Pescara), on the north-western side of the Majella. At the beginning of the 70s it became a State Nature Reserve and currently covers a total area of 2606 Ha. Together with the other Reserves established later in neighboring areas, today the territory protected and managed by the Forestry Police reaches 10,000 hectares which constitute the heart of the Majella National Park (established in 1995) or the part of greatest naturalistic value. That of the Orfento Valley is the only canyon of the Majella to have a perennial stream that gives life to one of the most fascinating habitats of this massif. It is no coincidence that the Dipper was chosen as the symbol of the Reserve: a bird that lives in this environment by feeding on the larvae of aquatic invertebrates, indicators of intact river environments, which it captures with spectacular underwater evolutions in the impetuous waters of mountain rivers. Hiking and excursions, even with local guides, through the most fascinating paths of the Orfento Valley, among spectacular canyons, beech woods, hermitages and places of worship, in an enchanted atmosphere, in the kingdom of the wolf, bear, eagle and deer in the wild heart of the Majella, where biodiversity is king.
