Food scene

You can have very good food at TexMex, which is rather cheap, too. I love to eat here. They have big portions and a great atmosphere.

Not sure whether they shut down... But they have the best burritos in town. Niki loves the chicken ones, I think the vegan ones with beans are the best. The owner is lovely, too. I could name so many good restaurants in the Neustadt… There are Algerians, Italians like Vecchia Napoli or Venezia, Japanese like Ramen 1974, Indians like Safi, Turkish like Ocakbasi, Cubans like Martinez, the best ice-cream in TIKI (though I also recommend the ice cream factory next to the main station in the Altstadt)…I would recommend strolling through the streets and having a look. :) You will find more individual, smaller restaurants in the Neustadt. You get the bigger companies like Losteria in the Altstadt. Photo: by TheEvilBurritoDresden

It is getting late and everything else is closed? This one won’t let you down! PS: There is always a Späti around the next corner as well (shops in the Neustadt that are open at night).

The perfect place to have breakfast or brunch with your friends/family/partner/yourself ;). They also have delicious cakes and waffles. Better call them at least a day in advance to book a table (they serve good food and are therefore often fully booked when you come spontaneously).

There is also a chocolate museum inside! They have so many delicious chocolates from around the world (and chocolate ice cream and hot chocolates and macaroons) …it’s hard to decide what to buy.

You can visit this beautiful big garden in just a few walking minutes away. It is so big that you can easily walk or jog for two hours, explore the trails and ways, view the fountains and tuck your toes in the little lakes, watch the flowers, ride the miniature railway….

Escape the city and explore the nature in the Dresdner Heide. The sunlight falls beautifully through the leaves on the small river that flows next to the Heide hills. I love to hike here, there are also some geo caches, but I also come here often with my bike to do some downhill riding :D exciting or relaxing - as you like it. You can enter the Dresdner Heide by walking out of the Neustadt. Photo: https://www.heidemuellerin.de/wanderung-heide-2/

The Hygienemuseum offers a variety of exhibition rooms with different topics! You can interact with multimedia and use your senses. They have a big area where you can learn more about your body and mind. Some are more artsy, some are about science or biology, some deal with serious/controversial topics. Not boring at all!!! This is the first club in Dresden that comes to my mind. They have a karaoke/90s/pop/indie floor and an electro floor, but the place itself is rather small. Sometimes there is also a fire pit outside. Student hang out.

Awesome view on the historic buildings and locals‘ favorite place to hang out in the afternoon/evening. We like to skate/ride the bike/stroll here. There are also barbecue spots (bring your grill or accompany others) and many geo caches on this route. You have a great view from the bridges! The so-called Assi-Eck ("anti-social corner") is actually quite the opposite of anti-social: Lots of people meet here in the evening and at night. It is common to sit in the window sills or on the street and just talk and have a good time! Sometimes someone starts playing music and a few moments later like 40 people are dancing on the street in the middle of the night. You just have to experience it. Every night is different here. At day, you can find many good restaurants and cafes in this area.

I can recommend a trip to Pirna and to this cafe/restaurant. Their cake is incredible! Afterwards, you can walk to the Bierschänke on top of the hill (there is live music in summer weekend evenings) or walk next to the Elbe. It is a bit calmer here and the architecture is quite cute. The best way to travel here is by S-Bahn (from S-Bhf. Strehlen stop).

Interesting architecture that is typical for historic Dresden. It used to be an orangery garden and a “playground“ for the rich people. There are galleries/museums inside. Trip activity for winter days. The Striezelmarkt is typically very crowed, so I recommend going to the Middle Ages themed marked at Stallhof Dresden. If you have a sweet tooth and want to try a local speciality, try Dresdner Stollen, Glühwein or Feuerzangenbowle! Prost.

Personally, I am not a zoo fan. But... when I visited Dresden Zoo after I read “Life Safari“ in May, it changed my life. I am not kidding! I was standing on a platform when a giraffe walked majestically towards me… and he/she was so close! Giraffes are so beautiful. Even in this small zoo area, I was impressed and I asked myself: "What would it be like to experience them in their natural habitat?!" Since then I saved money and did Airbnb to travel to Africa - and it worked! I went to South Africa for half a year. I have learnt so much, grew personally, and it was the travel trip of my life. Now I save money for my next trip, haha. Back to the zoo: Watching the penguins is fun, too. Especially kids have a great time here because the penguins seem to interact with them to make them laugh even more. Behind the penguins is a small restaurant, so I recommend bringing some extra money for ice cream or fries. ;)
