Around Atri you can see soil erosion as per the photo. The city provides great views of the Gran Sasso Mountain Range and the Adriatic Sea. Atri’s must see monuments include the 13th century Duomo – the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, and the Palazzo Ducale, the palace of the Acquaviva’s which is strategically situated on the highest point of the town. The fifteenth century frescoes in the cathedral are painted by the Abruzzo painter Andrea de Litio or also know as Delitio. The Palazzo Ducale is now used for offices pertaining to the municipality and province of Teramo. Also worth seeing is the Museo Capitolare, the Chiesa San Francesco which features a flight of stairs in the Baroque style, and the Chiesa San Domenico which contains two 17th century paintings by Giacomo Farelli.

One of the highest castles in Europe - a fantastic place to visit. At an elevation of 1,512 metres (4,961 ft), the castle is the highest fortress in the Apennines. Built of stone and masonry exclusively for military purposes and intended only to accommodate troops and never as residence for nobles, the fortress overlooks the Plain of Navelli at one of the highest points in the ancient Barony of Carapelle.

It is a long stretch of sandy coastline at the foot of a beautiful historic watchtower with dunes and natural pine forests. The beach of the marine protected area of Torre del Cerrano is an uncontaminated corner of Abruzzo that thanks to the cleanliness and sustainable development of its beaches, has been awarded with the BLUE FLAG 2016.

A complete medieval village on the Campo Imperatore. The amazing 16th century village Santo Stefano di Sessanio, 1250masl, on the edge of the Campo Imperatore plain in the Gran Sasso National Park. Easily reachable via a variety of routes from pretty much anywhere in Abruzzo, this remarkable location is an architectural delight with its archways, cobbled streets, Medici square, a wonderful watchtower (not for those suffering from extreme vertigo) and excellent hotel.

Built on the back of the sheep industry from Roman times. Castel del Monte is a medieval and Renaissance hill town, in the province of L'Aquila, in northern Abruzzo. Located in the heart of the Gran Sasso mountain range, the town sits opposite the ancient mountaintop fortress of Rocca Calascio and faces Monte Sirente in the distance. In 2006, the town was named one of the "borghi più belli d'Italia", (the most beautiful villages of Italy). In return for this honor, the town agreed to promote historic preservation and environmental protection. The creation of Parco Nazionale del Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga in 1993, which Castel del Monte lies entirely within, assures that the land surrounding the town will remain forever wild, thus preserving Castel del Monte in a near pristine state. Castel del Monte's biggest tourist event is The Night of the Witches. Held in mid-August, thousands visit the town for the late-night spectacle where the entire historic district serves as a stage for residents who play the roles of townspeople and witches in a folk drama in the local dialect known as "Castellano".
