They are all within an hour or two tops, driving distance from the house and we specify some of the most important and remarkable details from every place, from how to reach them to specifying and providing official websites to access rates, prices and packages to the ones applicable. Hope you enjoy them as much as we do, everytime we can !
It's really amazing and you'll end up speechless with the variety of flora and fauna that brings the tropical rainforest reserve with over 250 hectares within where the park is located. It's a local family business that had a great vision a long time ago and were able to develope one of the great attractions on the area. Fortunately I've met the father of one of the owners and it was merely impressive because we're talking about an elder fellow that comes and goes roaming around the bridges, trails and park facilities like he is a kid. His energy in really addictive and I think it's because of the forest and it's vibes working throughout the years of been raised and being developed in a privileged and mistical of 250 hectares of tropical rainforest provided by mother nature and a family heritage well administrated. Also he gave me and two special friends, a free tour of the hiking trails from 1 km to 3.5 km length, over 15 different bridges and some of the adventure attractions they offer like canopy tour, guided tours which can last from 25 min to 2.5 hours, also there's a restaurant and several look out places for an excellent bird watching activities. The park has a 7:30 am to 4:30 pm hours schedule and great variety of packages for you to have a great time enjoying nature with a responsible and caring business surrounding it! You can always find more info of the prices and packages on the official website https://www.misticopark.com/

"Rio Celeste" it's an awesome rainforest to go and relax, meditate interacting with nature, letting yourself go to that place we don't have in the big cities but we all like to be at least once a week! The river has an spectacular show for the travelers and it's made by it's own nature, thanks to the area the river is located, because the blue flow is surrounded by fumaroles, stones and streams. The waters of the river are rich in minerals, as well as volcanic materials such as sulphate of copper and sulfur, which make the water take a crystalline color very similar to the color of the sky, sometimes like turquoise or light blue that creates a mesmerizing scenery to worship nature! The river is located in the Tenorio Volcano National Park and it's an hour away from the house in "Monterrey". By car you just have to drive to a neighbouring town called "Guatuso" and make your way to the National Park. They have 8:00 am to 2:00 pm hours schedule and once you're in you can remain until 4:30 pm in the National Park. Also the facilities has free parking, bathrooms, drinkable water, look out places. Finally there's a natural hiking trail with about 3.5 km length traveling the main atractions of the park like the "Rio Celeste" Waterfall, the Blue Lagoon, the Hotbeds and the Dyer Spot, where you can actually see the water changing it's colour tone. You can always find more info on the official website http://www.sinac.go.cr/ES/ac/acat/pnvt/Paginas/default.aspx

The "Venado" Caverns were discovered by the "Guatusos" aborigines and they are an exciting adventure for those who are not claustrophobic and if you don't mind getting your hands, legs, bodies wet and fill with mud. Inside the caverns, you'll need to climb walls, crawl your way through holes, also you can find marine fossils, interact with spiders and watch bats all over the place. The caverns consists of 12 rooms of different sizes some of them really narrow and low, so in certain cases you'll need to cross underground rivers to get to the other chamber. The caverns are 35 min away from "Monterrey", they have 8:00 am to 4:00 pm hour schedules and there's one guided tour starting at 8:00 am and the other one starting a 1:00 pm, lasting up to 2.5 hours. It's better to go with another spare of clothes and shoes, also don't forget to carry water bottles with you and some candy or chocolate would be helpful with the climbing, crawling and walking during the tours! You can always find more info of the prices and packages on the official website https://www.cavernasdelvenadocr.com/

The Pocosol Station, part of the Children’s Eternal Rainforest (or "BEN" after its Spanish name, "Bosque Eterno de los Niños"). The park was named after being bought and protected thanks to a campaign started by Swedish school students from the 80's, rapidly gaining contributions, fundraising efforts and donations of children, schools and individuals all from over 44 countries around the world. The "BEN" is: • The largest private reserve in the country of Costa Rica. • Extended through 7 different life zones in a rainforest. • One of the most biologically diverse 56,000 acres on earth. • Managed by the "Monteverde" Conservation League (which is a Nonprofit organization whose mission is to conserve, preserve, and rehabilitate tropical ecosystems and their biodiversity). Without any questions asked it's definitely a place to take your time to get to know and it's even just one of the areas of the whole park, there's also the "Bajo del Tigre" Reserve, the "San Gerardo" Station, the "Finca" Steller and of course the majestic "Monteverde". Besides, Pocosol Station can be reached throughout either "La Fortuna" or "La Tigra". The closest way is through "La Tigra" it's around an hour and 15 min drive from the house and can be easily done preferably in a 4x4 or 4-wheel drive vehicle. Also it offers so much to the visitors that is actually very difficult to be done observing and covering every part of its great beauty scenic environment that some people rather spend the night over there to get a major advantage of the place. Within the park they offer: • 10 km of trails through primary and secondary rainforest, to a lake, a waterfall, and boiling mud pits. • Spectacular bird watching and an impressive bird list, including the rare Bare-necked Umbrellabird, endemic to Costa Rica and western Panama. • Spectacular views of the "Peñas Blancas" Valley. • Three delicious home-cooked meals per day, included. • Rooms with 2 to 3 bunks, private bathrooms with hot water. • Guided day and night hikes (prior reservations required). • Open-air classroom for talks and workshops. • Internet (Wi-Fi) in the main areas. You can always find more detailed info of the prices and packages on the official webpage http://www.acmcr.org/

A highly recommended place. Among its characteristics you'll find free access to it, the parking of the vehicle has to be done on the side of the road, since there is no parking, traffic signs must be respected to avoid fines. I recommend going when it's sunset as there are less people. It is a good panorama after a day of tours or walking to relax and rest, plus it's free. The place is very touristy, visited by both foreigners and nationals who travel as a family or as a couple, the water level is above the knee, the water temperature is very pleasant. That point exactly is enveloped by a rich pleasant cold that is counteracted by the heat of the river water, the green predominates with the black color of the volcanic rocks, there are many of them in the river, which makes it difficult to walk, but that's the least of it, since the experience is truly worth it. You can also wear water shoes to prevent falls or slippery surfaces. Also bring mosquito repellent. It does not have any basic service since they are free and natural hot springs that are not managed by any company. This place is located near the Tabacon Hotel, within the beautiful area of La Fortuna de San Carlos.

The Arenal Volcano National Park (PNVA) was established on September 30, 1991 It’s the main attraction and the one who steels the whole show around the area. The park opens daily from 8am to 4pm The rates are: • National Adult, resident: ¢ 1,000. • National Child and resident: ¢ 500. • Adult non-resident: US$ 15. • Nonresident child US$ 5. They offer services: • Drinking water • Parking • Sightseeing place • Area for lunch • Sanitation Featured Atracttions: • Heliconia Trail • Coladas Trail • El Ceibo Trail • Mirador volcanic cone • The Peninsula Trail area You can always find more info on the official website.

Excellent food and somehow expensive but its worth it. No credit cards accepted. For vegan/vegetarian options you can't go wrong, but make sure to bring enough cash as you're going to need it. They have a commitment to not using plastic and the environment is delightful. Chill music and mellow lighting. High-quality, fresh ingredients prepared to perfection. The food was absolutely excellent. The fabulous variety of hot beverages and cold are tastefully done. They also have a bulk goods section, and some lovely handmade gifts.

Situated with a majestic view of the valley and volcano, you'll get incredible hospitality with delicious and authentic food. It's almost somehow if you're eating at your grandma's house because of the vibe and environment. If you’re staying at our house, skip one of the meals and give it a try. There's great service and reasonable prices with good atmosphere for everyone. Plenty of parking and huge dinning tables with green areas to sit back and relax while you enjoy the incredible landscapes. The restaurant is on top of a hill really away from everything, but well worth the trip.
