The hydrostone area of Halifax was built as emergency housing after the famous Halifax Explosion, with materials sent from Boston. Halifax and Boston have maintained a special relationship ever since. Halifax still sends Boston a huge Christmas tree every year as a thank you! The market has a lovely village feel to it, and Fort Needham hill right around the corner has a memorial to the victims of the explosion and great views of the harbour.

An easy biking trail which follows the old railway route. The trail follows beside a chain of lakes (hence the name) and connects up with the Bayers Lake shopping and industrial park.
