If we book with you in good faith and you get fined by the authorities because you have broken the rules and if they fine us because of you breaking the rules, then we expect you to cover our fine as well. Considering the uncertainty with COVID restrictions, please book knowing our cancellation policy is strict. No matter what the restrictions, it has always been legal to book for one household. Please book accordingly knowing our policy. 1. Before you read any further, this home is equipped with an environmentally friendly Jenkins COMPOSTING toilet. If you are ok with this system and you still wish to book, please keep reading.
2. Our $250 CLEANING FEE+RESORT FEE on top of the nightly fee includes: firewood for your stay, your use of the hot tub, cleaning the wood fired hot tub and providing water and firewood to heat the tub for each new set of guests (sometimes we will fill the tub and heat it especially in the winter, but during the rest of the seasons, we will leave the hose and instructions for you to fill it as you need), constant maintenance of the property located in a remote location, emptying the composting toilet and cleaning it, higher utility costs, getting the paths ready, and of course preparing the home. We work hard to ensure our guests enjoy the cabin and trust each to do their share when leaving.

Please read our house rules which has a hidden code to unlock booking with us.

This four-season comfortable, unpretentious, and cozy cottage is located near Inwood, just 50 mins north of Winnipeg in the heart of the Interlake region of Manitoba. The home sits on a lovely 640-acre treed property on one perfect square mile. It is one of the only remaining full section properties which has never been cleared, cultivated, or grazed, it is virgin territory in Manitoba. It has pristine aspen and oak woodland with wetlands, wildlife, and birds. This property is adjacent to several thousand acres of wildlife management (uninhabited conservation) areas.

This bungalow consists of an open concept home accessible from the driveway/parking area. The outside siding as well as the inside ceiling and some kitchen cabinets were painstakingly cut from the beautiful ample aspen trees on the lot and lovingly prepared and put in place by the previous owners.

The kitchen is fully equipped and spacious. There is a portable convection oven, a slow cooker, a bread machine, a Waffle Maker, Kettle, Coffee Machine, as well a stove top, and fridge. Under our use, the kitchen and the rest of the cooking surfaces are only used for plant-based cooking. If you are bringing animal products into our home, please be extremely mindful of your cleaning after cooking, particularly the counters, sink and fridge.

The dining room overlooks the large north facing window which overlooks a big open field.

The living room boasts a comfortable armchair, a daybed and a very luxurious recliner, creating a semi-circle facing a very warm wood stove. The living room is a great place to have some hearty chats, play rambunctious board games or competitive card games and to curl up with a great book. The sofa converts into a double bed with bedding inside the storage unit of the sofa.

There is a bedroom with two twin beds and a nook which has a very comfortable queen size bed, a great place to curl up with a book or enjoy a nice nap in the warm sunshine which streams through the windows behind the bed.

The wall which is west facing of the home has 3 big windows, where during the bird watching season, there are a large variety of birds to observe as well as playful deer who use the open area outside as their playground. Facing this wall is a work desk and chair on one side and a very luxurious 2-person bean bag chair on the other side (to curl up in to watch the outdoors or to read or nap or whatever else you would enjoy doing to relax).

The cottage has a single full bathroom. The special thing about this bathroom is that it has a Jenkins Composting toilet. The toilet is a no fuss, no smell type and we will give you instructions on what to do to use it well. Having the composting toilet on the property means there is no need to get a tank emptied. Most importantly, it means that for the environmentally conscious person, it uses very little water.

Bedding and pillows are provided (for 6 guests only). Please bring your own towels.

WiFi is provided. It is by satellite and not high speed. It is not suitable for streaming services.

There is no television at Toadhall. If you want to watch anything, please bring whatever you need, already downloaded.

There is a wood-fired Japanese style hot tub from Alumitub which seats 6-8 people. It is filled with water for your stay or left for you to fill. It is for use by your party only. Firewood is available for use. Please make sure to read waiver and accept it in a written message to the host as well as instructions before use. We heat the hot tub for you in the winter if we have filled it. During the other seasons we leave it to you to heat even if we have filled it. You may wish to use it cooler during the day and then heat it for the night.

As it says on the Alumitub website: Relish the Ritual: Light the fire, disconnect from your devices and reconnect with nature. No gadgets, no bells and whistles. Just water, firewood, and good company.

A woodfired brick pizza oven has been added as of May, 2021. The tools to use the oven have been provided as well (a thermometer, a foldable table, and a metal pizza peel). It is important to clean up the foldable table and pizza peels and return them to the location you found them for future guests. Photos to come.

Firewood is available for use. We use seasoned firewood supplied by Firewood Manitoba for your enjoyment: check them out at We are slowly collecting, cutting and seasoning wood from this acreage.

The view of the night sky is spectacular and truly extraordinary because there is no light pollution - a major problem in so many places.

There is absolute silence only broken by the birds tweeting which has stunned visitors as they suddenly realized there is no traffic noise. If you are interested in forest bathing, a link to an article is provided on the second photo.

The previous custodians of this acreage endeavored to preserve the land's distinctive characteristics and diverse eco-systems. They cut trails, often following time-honored deer trails, that help the wildlife circulate and create edges for plants and bird species as well as offering recreation possibilities such as in the winter: cross-country skiing; snowshoeing; dog sledding; and in the summer: hiking; horse riding; bicycling. Following their lead, we cut the same paths.

Important Points to Note:

The two cupboards above the stove, are not available to guests.

-Watch the video provided in your instructions once you book to know how to properly use the tub before trying it out
-NEVER start the fire in the firebox if the firebox is not submerged in water. The firebox can deform.
-If water is less than 4” above the throat of the firebox, please add water.
-No glassware in the hot tub
-No alcohol, drugs or cigarettes or e-cigarettes in the hot tub

-Do not sit on the edge of the hot tub. We don’t want you to fall out accidentally.

Please practice proper careful etiquette on the paths:
-It is better to go with others.
-Make sure your group knows that you are heading out.
-ABSOLUTELY no smoking on the trails. We want to keep the forest and the animals safe.
-Remember there is wildlife on the property including black bears and cayotes, so be safe.
-We have left our air horn in the cupboard at the foyer for your use. Please return it after your walks.

If you want to bring bear spray, Cabelas is the place to buy them. You need to give your legal address when purchasing it.

Advise from Genevieve Re: Bears:
April is the month when mama bear sends her two-year-old cub out on his own while she takes care of her newborn (they tend to breed every two years). The bears were never aggressive and prefer to run away, but it is vital to know what to do if there is a surprise encounter. Noise from the air horn carries far and makes the bear run away. We never had to use it as bears ran long before we were close. The bear spray is a last resort in case of bear attack.
Enjoy the scenery while remaining vigilant throughout the summer. No problem in winter, they hibernate.

Armstrong, Manitoba, Kanada

The closest settlement (Inwood) is 5 miles or 8 Km away with a K-12 school, service station with licensed mechanics, post-office, grocery store, cafe-convenience store, several other businesses and recreational facilities.
Rosy's cafe is a great place to have a cup of coffee and a meal.

The next closest town is Teulon. It has 2 gas stations, the restaurant Fry-day's and even a Rona.

3 lakes are close by as well: the North, East and West Shoal lakes.

There is a bison farm in the area where you can see the bison go about their business: playing, eating, running, being still etc.

Listen to the coyotes howl every day 30 mins past sunset from their dens located in the Southern direction from the cottage.

I transitioned from my Engineering/Computer Programming career in 2008 to partner with my husband to run his Structural Engineering company and raise 4 children. We decided we wanted to travel and so we made our business nimble and world-schooled our children, which included initially traveling in and living in an old RV to Florida for two winters (4 months each) and doing school at a beautiful park and a pristine beach as well as traveling to Victoria BC in the same RV for two winters (6 months each) but living in the mountains in a beautiful condo. We then started flying to our destinations and staying in Airbnbs for 4-6 weeks stints once our children started playing competitive sports. I wear many hats: goddess to my husband, the operations and finance director of our company: ASD Enterprises Limited, mother, teacher, friend, mentor, nimble open minded spiritual being and now Airbnb host. I am more into experiences than things. I am Sri-Lankan by ancestry, but I was born in Sierra-Leone and later grew up in Nigeria (where I met both my future husband and my best friend) and had a short stint in England before coming to Canada. The best parts of my idyllic childhood was connecting with the little imp inside of me and appreciating her truly, enjoying lots of creative free time, traveling, meeting new people, eating fresh food made by my mom from my dad's incredible garden and reading voraciously. I love to read and still read (or listen to audiobooks) eagerly and enthusiastically. I study a lot of spiritual books, leadership books and books which help me understand myself and my role in this world as well as books to help those I mentor and to help me better serve as a business person. I do enjoy a great story whether real or fictional. I am lucky to be a very fast reader and can get through 600 page fictional books in a few hours. I also love movies which make me laugh, cry or have a great story. I watch main stream movies as well as international movies from all over the world. I am passionate about writing, poetry and working on developing my artistic skills. I am currently learning piano as well and hope to learn some other instruments. I would say that my superpowers stem from my very high intuition, open-mindedness and ability/willingness to change course in a moment. I would say that I carry little baggage, both metaphorically as a human and literally (when I travel). I would say that I am a person who surrenders to the Universe and trusts the Universe. I live by 'do anything as you do everything' and surrendering has always worked for me and so if ever I struggle, ultimately, my go-to solution is to surrender whole heartedly. Courage and surrender are the corner stones of how I live my life and this is a short poem I wrote which explains how both have blessed my life. They give me freedom and make me feel light. They also make it easy for me to let my life be run by inspiration not obligation. ** When life gives me abundantly, I say ‘Yes!’ wholeheartedly  With courage.... When life takes from me mysteriously, I say ‘Yes!’ wholeheartedly  With surrender.... Sometimes, life gives when it takes and takes when it gives,  So I step into every moment holding hands with courage and surrender. It is my path to freedom. ** I have traveled all over the world except Australia (on my list). Where-ever I have gone, I have loved. I am the kind of person who is home wherever I go. I have been a dancer since I was 4 years old, primarily Bharatha Natyam, an Indian Classical dance form. Though, I just love to dance in general and have enjoyed Zumba as both a participant and instructor. I enjoy all sorts of music, Western and Eastern classical, West African music, jazz, pop, you name it. If it gets under my skin with a great beat, melody, vibe, or lyrics, it's got me. My family plays racquet sports: tennis, badminton, squash and ping pong competitively, and so I have dabbled in all these (I am not as skilled as they are). We also play soccer, basketball, volleyball and cricket for fun. I am happy to play keep away on land or water and can get very competitive, though I am more a dancer at heart and thus more of a collaborative person. I care about helping the underdog whether human, animal or our planet, this has been true all my life and part of why I started eating whole-food-plant-based since 2017 and the journey to that started long before (2012) I am also inspired to mentor young people and witness them blossoming. Finally, I love being an Airbnb host because I love meeting new people and helping them build their memories and experiences. My favorite Poem, which I live by: Autobiography in Five Short Chapters By Portia Nelson I I walk down the street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk I fall in. I am lost ... I am helpless. It isn't my fault. It takes me forever to find a way out. II I walk down the same street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I pretend I don't see it. I fall in again. I can't believe I am in the same place but, it isn't my fault. It still takes a long time to get out. III I walk down the same street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I see it is there. I still fall in ... it's a habit. my eyes are open I know where I am. It is my fault. I get out immediately. IV I walk down the same street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I walk around it. V I walk down another street. **** If you are curious about ASD Enterprises Limited: Asdel dot ca Reviews: Search for ASD Enterprises Limited on a search engine and click on the review tab.
