Casa Pombalinho ( Dovecot - cottage) is a 100yr old Fisherman's tiny cottage. Our home in the summer, has searched its modern ethnic inspired decor from the history of the Algarve, once part of moorish Andalucía.
Nestled in the heart of the quaint fishing village of Fuseta with 2 beaches at it's feet and 2 train stations, makes it an ideal location for people who may not wish to hire a car.
Upon entering the house you come straight into the lounge. The traditional Portuguese tiled floor reminiscent of days gone by, are a lovely feature to this room, in addition the vaulted brick exposed ceiling which gives the room an open and airy feel. The brick ceilings throughout this house have been carefully restored. Normally they would be covered in stuck and you wouldn't see this work. They are typical of this region and there are a total of 800 of these ceilings in Fuseta alone.

The living area is set with a Bo-concept two seater black sofa together with two contrasting cream chairs. All finished with ethnic scatter cushions. The sofa faces the wall mounted flat screen TV which offers a selection of European channels to suit all nationalities. Towards the back of the lounge area is the dinning area and entrance to the kitchen. and entrance to the downstairs bathroom. it boasts an air condittionnig unit to cool or heat through the hot summer or cold winter nghts.

This traditional cottage benefits from a fully equipped galley style kitchen with both wall and base units to one wall. The tan wood units and granite worktop give this kitchen an ultra modern feel. Also boasting fridge freezer, built in oven and ceramic hob with extractor over, and dishwasher. Included also are a kettle, coffee espresso machine, smoothie maker and toaster along with all cooking utensils, crockery, cutlery and drinking glasses. All provide guests with the opportunity to try out new recipes, making use of the abundance of local fresh produce, from the town market, grocery stores and local butcher.

The first of the 2 bedrooms is located on the ground floor just off the lounge. The room offers a double bed, a wall mounted hanging rail and wall mounted shelves beneath. The double glazed window has the benefit of shutters which can be closed in the heat of the day to keep the room cool and an air conditioning unit. The first bedroom has use of the first of the shower rooms which is also located on the ground floor. The bathroom is set out with a walk in shower, toilet and a basin which is set into a wood vanity unit, offering storage space for your holiday essentials. The room is tiled both floor and walls in a neutral colour. Little glam mosaic tiles around the wall & mounted mirror give an ultra modern finish.

The second bedroom is located on the first floor. It is accessed via stairs leading from the rear of the kitchen and up onto the private roof terrace. This quirky feature offers a self contained bedroom and bathroom en suite. The decor in the second bedroom is fresh and colourful and is set with a double bed, a hanging rail and again wall mounted storage. The bathroom is again fully tiled and offers a walk in shower. The basin is set into a marble surround offering ample surface space for holiday cosmetics.

Our fabulous 2 bedroom traditional tiny cottage benefits from a private small roof terrace which is accessed via the staircase from the kitchen. The roof terrace has been laid to decking on the floor and benefits from a traditional Portuguese brick built BBQ and outside sink. On the terrace we have placed a dining table and enough sitting for 6 people making it the ideal spot to enjoy the sunset glass of wine or the al fresco dining experience. The reclining chairs also allow for a relaxing "siesta" under the shadow of the sun sail, or take it away and sunbathe over cocktails.
The roof terrace offers stunning views out over the rooftops of Fuseta and to the sea and slat marshes beyond.

Once per month there is a mountain produce and gipsy market and also on a different date an antiques market.

The cottage also benefits from high speed internet Wi-Fi throughout the house besides the cable TV. Acess to Netflix is available.

Our fantastic townhouse comes with its own manual. Packed full of information to make the best of your holiday starting from the moment you arrive, it is packed full with details of the best restaurants, taxis and local amenities and activities.

And of course our amazing manager Olesia is on hand to make sure you enjoy your holiday even more. Should you need any advice or tips of the local area she will be more than happy to help.

Please note that if you are a light sleeper you had best take some ear plugs with you. We have tried but have not been successful at shutting down the church-bells. They rule the town and serve the people there loyally. For me it's picturesque, for you it can account for some sleepless nights.
We also have no control over errant dogs, and much less if they get into a fight, but they are a typical feature of Portuguese villages.
In August or New year's eve town celebrations take place. This involves music and fireworks by the beach. Depending on the direction of the wind they may be more disturbing than foreseen.

Vieta

Fuseta, Faro, Portugalija

This is an old fishing village, set between the fishing port of Olhao or the old town of Tavira.
The quarter of the village where you'll be staying is close to the church, and it's often named the widow's quarter.
On Sundays there is mass and if you stand on the terrace you will see the villagers go by.
Typically in the warmer evenings the neighbours will bring their chairs out onto the street and sit there and chat away into late hours;
It is still very typical and so you'll be able to experience life going on... unaware of your existence.
Everyone says good morning (Bom dia), good afternoon (boa tarde) or evening (boa noite) when they cross each other in the street.
You have several grocery stores, a supermarket and a fresh vegetable and fish market as well as butcher and pharmacy and Bank. We now also have our own craft beer brewer and a vegan/vegetarian restaurant.
The town is casual and carefree even if signs of modernity and refinement are beginning to surface.
The best experience is the locally sourced vongole or the fresh grilled fish you can savour at restaurants which you choose from window displays.
Don't miss getting your ice cream from the old ice cream booth on the square. It's not Italian ice cream but to us it's magical.
Another tradition is to eat a doughnut on the beach. They will shout loud enough when they come by so you can't miss them. Just stand up and attract their attention by waving, they will signal they have seen you, and will come to you.
You have 2 beaches. Fuseta is set in marches so you can either profit from the lagoon like beach in town, great if you have small children, or you can catch the ferry and go to the Island. There you have the possibility of either profiting from the vast sand banks and ocean beach or the lagoon side. There are also private taxi boats that take you to other islands beaches or that can take you on tours to see dolphins or just the magnificent protected area of the Ria Formosa.
Just come visit and experience...

I am Portuguese, my partner is Belgian. We have 4 children all adults now. That doesn't stop them from coming on holiday with us (not all at once :) ) We are at present living in Belgium but I have lived in a lot of other places around the world. I love travelling and the way it has impacted my life, what it has taught me about differences and tolerance. I know the importance of feeling welcomed and made feel at home. This is what we have tried to achieve with our little home in the Algarve. To us it is where we go to decompress and get back to the basics in life. So we hope to provide you with a relaxing and real immersion experience into the simple life of a fishing village with some comfort and modern commodities. Please feel free to leave us your suggestions on how we can welcome you even better. Thank you for staying with us, (we won't be there, don't worry). Olesia our amazing host will welcome you with open arms, and will try to help you in all that you may need.
