Sol to Soul

Būstas
Sol to Soul is a luminous, all-white, architectural pre-fab on five-acres in Pioneertown, fifteen minutes from the famous Pappy + Harriet’s Pioneertown Palace. It’s a seven-minute drive from the pavement of Pipes Canyon Road down a private, well-maintained dirt road, past Joshua Trees for as far as the eye can see, and some of the more beautiful architectural houses in the desert.

This isn’t a subdivision or a neighborhood of tract homes. It’s high design in the wild desert, a retreat with every amenity for your heart, soul and comfort, surrounded by boulders that are millions of years old, in harmony with the hawks, lizards, birds and bunnies, as well as the sun, stars and the Milky Way which appears over the house every night.

The desert is a place of mysticism, a harbor of raw, intense, otherworldly beauty; it is intimate with death, and so wildly awake to its counterpart: life. It cuts away the superfluous. We are all rendered to essence in the desert. So, you may feel a fierceness for life while here, a sudden clarity and sense of being wide awake and fully present. This is, after all, where the Phoenix comes to set herself on fire, the Alchemist to learn how to become the wind, and the sages to gain a deeper insight into their soul and destiny.

If ever there was a place tap into what you’re needing or desiring, it’s here. Do as little or as much as you feel moved to… even if you never leave the 5-acre grounds, you will leave recharged with the magic of this very special place. You are surrounded by thousands of boulders, some so large they will fill you with awe. Others that have faces, and carry the stories of countless millenium. And still others that balance incomprehensibly, one on top of another, building skyward, as if they know where they are going. Many ancient cultures believed that rocks are the most stable and permanent anchor of the divine – put your hand on one and see for yourself. Or climb until you find the one that speaks to you.

At Sol to Soul, you can easily spend the entire day just being – watching the sun rise, the clouds drift and the sun set (we’ve done it, it’s awesome). You could also write a novel, drop into the old western movie set of Pioneertown that now features some wonderful little shops and picturesque backdrops, or wander, hike or rock climb in nearby Joshua Tree National Park – at just under 800,000 acres its bigger than the state of New Hampshire, so there’s something for everyone. You could also hide out and read, play Scrabble, or compose your next song – maybe even while sitting in the salt water hot tub. Or, for a truly unique and magical experience, go for a sound bath at The Integretron – built by UFO advocate George Van Tassel, with information channeled from scientist Nikola Tesla among others, this iconic, dome structure “is a uniquely resonant tabernacle and energy machine sited on a powerful geomagnetic vortex.” After, you could drop into La Copine for an early dinner after – our favorite, not just for the extraordinary people and food but because, as the New York Times said, it is served in a “dining room run with joy and exuberance.” On the other hand, if you prefer to entertain in-house, we have a chef’s kitchen with a Wolf range, Subzero fridge and All-Clad, Le Creuset and Emile Henri cookware – and with two teak dining room tables, one inside and one out, you have seating for 12.

Our personal recommendations are that you stay up late counting stars, wake early for sunrise… and grab a nap on the outdoor sofa later in the day. Unplug and reconnect with your muses, partner, lover, children; sit outside for cocktails, and summon the hawks from their nest in the massive boulder we call Whale Rock – they might just come out and circle overhead. Or, if you’re especially blessed, you might catch sight of the very shy and elusive bob cats that live high in a cave opposite Whale Rock (we’ve only seen them once).

Not that you could miss it with views from every room, but we also implore you to catch sunset. It’s jaw dropping, as are the nights. With no light pollution to disturb it, the darkness here is pure, immersive… and heavenly. The moon rises over the rocks just off the living room. And the Milky Way, that pale, luminous band of wonder, cuts directly over the house – just walk onto the deck off the kitchen and look up.

The interior of Sol to Soul is warm and elegant. The artwork has been curated from my favorite local and Venice artists. The furniture is predominantly European-designed – from Moroso to Christian Liagre – and has the softest, vintage Moroccan rugs throughout the house. For privacy, there are no windows facing the “street”. But every room has a floor-to-ceiling slider with magical views of the boulders and sky, and a deck to transition you into the wild (except for the bathrooms).

The bedrooms feature king-sized beds with My Green Mattress pure Dunlop Latex mattresses and pillow tops (all natural from trees, no chemicals or metal coils); Egyptian cotton and linen bedding; floor-to-ceiling sliders so that you may sleep with a view of the moon and stars – or black-out curtains if you prefer.

Tucked into the shelter of a giant boulder, there is a deck with a top-of-the-line Hot Springs salt water hot tub, outdoor shower and cozy seating area with some of the most amazing views at Sol to Soul.

There are sun loungers on the master bedroom deck.

On te deck off the kitchen/living room, there is an outdoor sofa, lounge chairs an fire feature, in addition to a teak-dining table with seating for 6. There is another teak dining table inside, also with seating for six. These two tables could be combined to entertain larger parties.

The house is equipped with a state-of-the-art radiant heating and A/C system; Wifi; fire sprinkler system; smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.

During your stay you may see lizards, cotton tail rabbits, jack rabbits, coyote, hawks, bob cats, crows by the hundreds, quail, a zillion birds I can’t name, and these adorable, mouse-like creatures that zip back and forth across the road all day long.

Whatever you are moved to do or not do, let go of or allow to come in while you are here, we wish you a beautiful, blessed, joyful, magical, transformative and memorable stay at Sol to Soul… where we welcome you to dream, play, burn, be and love.

Blessings and Light,
Leslie
