At the nexus of two exciting neighbourhoods, Parkdale & Roncesvalles Villages, is this quiet, private, exquisite retreat after a day of work or fun. It's a short transit/bike ride to the downtown core and steps to a diversity of shops, restaurants, pubs, and entertainment. High Park and the Lake Ontario shoreline are a short walk away. Enjoy the comforts of home in a luxurious 3 year-old unit: in-floor heating throughout, full suite of kitchen appliances, en-suite full-sized washer and dryer.

Būstas
Triller Grove is unique because it is shiny and new, yet surrounded by a small grove of trees and shrubs, including a black oak, an ash, white and red cedars, edible serviceberry, black currant, and elderberry shrubs, as well as lots of other decorative plants and shrubs.

From the modern kitchen with high end, energy-saving stainless steel appliances to the crisp glass and marble tiled bathroom; from the radiant-floor heating throughout to unusually, for a lower level, large windows; from comfortable and functional furniture to a full sized washer and gas dryer, this modern apartment is also loaded with all of the little touches that make it feel like home.

Main Space

The sofa in the main space can fold out and I provide another 4" memory foam mattress so that a third person can sleep there.

There is WiFi and the kitchen island is suitable for laptop work, although an office chair is provided for work at a credenza in the main space.

There is a television with cables to connect to your computer should you wish to watch on a larger screen. However, there is no cable service. Some games and a variety of books and magazines for your enjoyment may be found on the shelves and in the credenza cupboards.

Kitchen and Cooking

The kitchen is supplied with pots and pans for cooking on the stove or in the oven, the cupboards are stocked with full dinnerware and glassware sets--from martini to wine, to juice/water--and stainless steel mixing bowls, as well as serving dishes. There is a toaster, a Bodum French press coffee maker, an electric tea kettle, and cutting boards. The drawers contain full sets of cutlery and ceramic knives, and all the kitchen utensils you might need.

I would appreciate it if my guests tread as lightly on this earth as possible during their stay, and have provided cloth tea and hand towels, and napkins in the kitchen; but understand the convenience of paper and provide paper versions with the proviso that paper products be disposed of in a separate receptacle so they may be composted. I would also appreciate that attention be paid to not leaving lights on unnecessarily.

The kitchen is also stocked with: cereal, organic milk, organic fair trade coffee from my neighbours and local roasters, Linda and Kevin's company Alternative Grounds; and a variety of teas, organic sugar, honey, and a variety of spices and condiments.

Bathroom

The bathroom is stocked with shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and liquid hand soap. The vanity also holds bandages, q-tips, new toothbrushes should you forget yours, and toothpaste. There are two terry cotton bathrobes, and a set of towels per guest--bath, hand, and face cloth. There is a hair dryer and a selection of bubble bath should you fall in love with the deeeeeep tub!

Bedroom

The bed is queen sized with s medium-firm mattress. A duck feather duvet tops it all off, but other blankets are also provided to suit your individual sleep preferences.

There is a large, independently lit walk-in closet with lots of hangers and shelves to organize your clothes, a large mirror, and an iron and ironing board.

During the warm weather, you might enjoy sitting at the cafe table in the walkout to enjoy your morning coffee. During the "too" warm weather, you might want to keep the door and windows closed to maintain the natural cool of the partially subterranean apartment, and a fan is provided for your comfort. In the winder, you can set the thermostat to your liking, but remember that it is radiant floor heating so changes aren't evident immediately. But once it is on, the apartment is very comfortable.

My goal is to make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible, so please ALWAYS feel free to ask about or report anything that is wanting and I will do my best to fulfill your needs.

Parking and Transportation and Getting Around

Unless you travel to Toronto by car or are planning trips in and around the Greater Toronto Area that required a vehicle, the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) is a good way to get around efficiently without the hassle and cost of parking a vehicle at your destination. A single cash fare is $3.25 one way. Tokens can be bought at local variety (corner) stores at a cost of $3.00 per with a minimum purchase of $9 for 3. Here is the full fare breakdown (URL HIDDEN) Toronto also has a large fleet of Bike Share rentals, with the bike stations within a 5 minute walk of the house. You can find information about that here: (URL HIDDEN) So you have a few choices! Let me know if I can be of further assistance with your travel and transportation arrangements when you get here.

If you arrive by car or intend to rent one, there is free street parking in my neighbourhood from 8 a.m. until midnight, but it is hit and miss and parking can be an issue here. There is also free parking on the major cross street, Queen St. West, a few hundred feet away from 9 p.m. until 8 a.m. Monday to Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday. So with some effort, free parking is available.

Another option is to order a temporary parking permit. A specific space is not guaranteed, but you will not be ticketed during the night. The costs are as follows:

"... a temporary parking permit may be purchased by residents and their guests to park a motor vehicle on a street designated under the permit parking program, at a cost of $21.09 per week, $9.00 per 24 hours or $13.51 per 48 hours, plus H.S.T."

You can order online here: (URL HIDDEN)

There are also pay as you go options in the neighbourhood:

a) above-ground visitors' parking spots behind the high-rise across the street. It is metered parking and three days costs $12 CAD. The spaces are somewhat limited;

or

b) an above-ground Municipal Parking lot a 1 minute walk away which offers parking 24-7. The cost is a maximum of $6 between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. and a maximum of $4 between 6 p.m. and 7 a.m.

So you have a few choices! Let me know if I can be of further assistance with your travel and transportation arrangements when you get here.

One block to the west is Roncesvalles Ave., which lends itself to the neighbourhood to the north, Roncesvalles Village. Running from Queen St. West to Dundas St. West, this street is walker friendly with lovely boulevard gardens. There are benches all along the way, providing a spot to rest at while enjoying the plethora of shops and restaurants. From the finest dining to hip cafes, shoe and specialty clothing shops to drug stores, an airy library to two churches, and a variety of specialty food shops, there is something for everyone along Roncesvalles Ave.

Twice annually the street is closed off for Festivals: Roncy Rocks in the middle of June, and the Polish Festival in mid September.

________

To the east of my home is West West, Queen St. West! My home is located a stone's throw from the west most point of Queen St. West. Over the last 30 years, the hipster "Queen St. West" has progressively moved west from it's original stretch around Spadina Ave., downtown. As specialty shops, clubs, and galleries inched their way west, they acquired another "west" prefix.

The neighbourhood around this last section of Queen St. West is also called Parkdale and is an economically and ethnically diverse place. Host to "Little Tibet", the community has been a magnet for new immigrants and the variety of cuisines on offer refkect that; you can have Eastern European for breakfast, Caribbean for lunch, and Indian for dinner, with Tibetan snacks in between!

Hi! My name is Maria. I have lived in my big, beautiful Georgian Revival home for 24 years. Four years ago I underpinned (lowered the floor in) my basement and created a beautiful, eco-friendly, modern, one bedroom apartment--waiting for YOU to enjoy! Until this renovation took over my life, I was working on a Master's degree at York University in the Faculty of Environmental Studies. My topic is Indigenous food sovereignty. Don't know what that is? I'd be happy to tell you. I love school and can't wait to get back to my studies since I took a leave to complete your home away from home. I have been working for our national public broadcaster, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), for 23 years as a video editor in TV News. I am a news junkie! I love political and social justice discussions. I have a Specialist Social Cultural Anthropology/Major Sociology/Minor Portuguese undergraduate degree from the University of Toronto. I am an avid gardener and member of the Horticultural Societies of Parkdale and Toronto. I garden at home and in an allotment garden nearby in High Park. I also have a certificate in Baking and although I didn't end up working in the field, I can and love to bake up a storm! Depending on my work schedule and how long you stay, I promise to share with you if I bake! And if you're visiting Toronto to celebrate something special in your life, if time allows, I can make you something special, per your request. I love traveling, especially to my small stone house on the Island of Pico in the Azores where I was born. I have also travelled in Brazil, Mexico, various Caribbean islands, the Eastern and Western U.S., England, Germany, Switzerland, Portugal, Nepal, and India. I love meeting and learning about new cultures, as opposed to resort holidays. I also lived in Sonoma County, California for two years. I hope to host you soon! ...../Maria
